How to enable two-factor authentication in Quillio

Quick answer

To enable 2FA — open your profile, Security, and click Enable Two-Factor Authentication. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (recommended) or set up SMS. Save your backup codes somewhere safe. Firm admin can require 2FA for all users.

Recommended method

Authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password) are the recommended method. SMS 2FA is supported but less secure — SIM swapping attacks have affected law firms. If SMS is your only option, use it, but migrate to an authenticator when practical.

Firm-wide requirement

Firm admin can require 2FA for all users. When enabled, users without 2FA are prompted to set it up at next login. I recommend this for all firms handling confidential client matter.

Backup codes

When you enable 2FA, you receive 10 backup codes. Save these somewhere secure (password manager, offline location). Each code can be used once if your authenticator is unavailable.

Step-by-step
  1. Open Security settings. Click your profile, then Security.
  2. Enable 2FA. Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
  3. Set up authenticator. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. Enter the 6-digit code to confirm.
  4. Save backup codes. Download the backup codes. Store them somewhere secure. Test login with 2FA to confirm it works.
Common issues
  • Lost authenticator — use a backup code, then reconfigure
  • Lost all backup codes and authenticator — contact firm admin for reset
  • Authenticator time sync issues — resync the device clock
