How to set a draft review workflow in Quillio

Quick answer

To set a draft review workflow — open Firm Settings, Workflows, and enable Draft Review. Choose which outputs require review (client-facing letters, court documents, AFSL-regulated advice), who can approve, and how long drafts remain in the review queue.

What can require review

You can set review requirements for any output type — client advice letters, court documents, contract drafts, regulatory filings. Internal outputs (chronologies, research memos for team use) typically do not require review.

Approver selection

Approvers can be set at firm level (any partner), team level (specific partner group), or by matter type (e.g., commercial matters reviewed by commercial partners). I recommend starting with team-level rules and adjusting as you see workflow patterns.

Queue and timing

Drafts awaiting review appear in the approver's queue. A matter owner can see the status of their drafts. Reviews that sit for more than 48 hours escalate to another approver (configurable). All approvals and changes are logged.

Step-by-step
  1. Open Firm Settings. As firm admin, open Firm Settings.
  2. Open Workflows. Click Workflows in the sidebar.
  3. Enable Draft Review. Toggle Draft Review on. Configure which outputs require review.
  4. Set approvers and escalation. Add approvers at firm, team, or matter-type level. Set escalation timing. Save.
Common issues
  • Aggressive review rules slow matter throughput — start narrow and expand
  • Approvers on leave need delegation — configure backup approvers
  • Escalation notifications can be noisy — tune the timing
