Compliance Gap Checker
This free tool identifies common compliance gaps across key regulatory areas — privacy (APPs), anti-money laundering (AML/CTF), workplace health and safety, and industry-specific obligations. Answer a short questionnaire about your current compliance practices and receive a gap analysis with prioritised recommendations.
What this tool does
Compliance obligations multiply faster than most firms can track — especially across privacy, AML/CTF, and workplace safety. Missing a requirement is rarely deliberate; it happens because the obligation was buried in a new amendment or fell between two teams. This tool gives you a structured way to check for the gaps that matter most.
How to use it
- Select the compliance area to assess (privacy, AML/CTF, workplace safety, or industry-specific)
- Answer the questionnaire about your current policies, procedures, and controls
- Indicate your organisation type and size for context-appropriate thresholds
- Review the gap analysis — each gap is linked to the relevant legislative provision
- Use the prioritised recommendations as a starting point for your remediation plan
What you'll learn
- Which compliance obligations you may be missing or under-addressing
- How your current controls compare to the minimum requirements under the relevant legislation
- Priority areas where a gap creates the highest regulatory or litigation risk
- The specific legislative provisions that impose each obligation

Which compliance areas are covered?
The tool covers the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), AML/CTF Act obligations for reporting entities and designated services, WHS primary duties, and selected industry obligations for financial services, health, and construction.
Is my questionnaire data stored?
No. Your answers are processed in your browser and are not stored, logged, or transmitted after the session ends.
How current is the legislation referenced?
Legislative references are reviewed quarterly and updated when relevant amendments commence. The last-reviewed date is shown on the results page.
Can this replace a compliance audit?
No. This is a high-level gap-check against common obligations. A full compliance audit requires detailed analysis of your specific operations, contracts, and risk profile by a qualified professional.
Does it cover state-specific obligations?
WHS obligations are shown for the harmonised model WHS laws and flagged where Victoria and Western Australia diverge. Privacy and AML/CTF are federal regimes.
Is this suitable for advising clients?
It can help you identify areas to investigate further, but the results are not tailored legal advice. Any advice to clients must be based on a full analysis of their specific circumstances.

This tool provides a high-level gap analysis based on general compliance obligations. It does not constitute legal or compliance advice and cannot replace a professional compliance audit tailored to your specific circumstances. Legislative obligations change — always verify against current legislation.
