Does this change the legal meaning?
The tool is tuned to preserve legal meaning while changing language. Any time a technical term has no plain-English equivalent (for example "consideration" in contract law), it keeps the term and adds a short definition rather than replacing it with something ambiguous.
Is it safe for client-facing correspondence?
It is a drafting aid. You still need to read and approve the output before it goes to a client, same as any other drafted text. The benefit is speed of first draft, not a substitute for your sign-off.
Does it handle Australian legal terminology specifically?
Yes. The tool knows "barrister and solicitor" conventions, state-specific court names, and AU-specific statutory terms — so it will not substitute US terms like "attorney" or "Supreme Court of the United States" into your text.
Can I use it for litigants in person?
Yes. The "litigant in person" setting produces simpler sentences, shorter paragraphs, and more explicit signposting — useful if you are drafting correspondence you know a self-represented party will read.
What about cultural considerations for First Nations or CALD clients?
The tool does not replace cultural competence. It simplifies language, but you still need to apply appropriate cultural framing — for example, using interpreters where necessary, or following the protocols in the Law Council's Indigenous Legal Issues Committee guidance.
Does this comply with the Federal Court plain-English requirements?
The Federal Court Practice Note GPN-PLD requires pleadings to be concise and in plain English. This tool can help with pleading drafts, but pleadings have formal requirements this tool does not enforce — always check your drafting against the relevant practice note.
