Find the precedent that actually fits.
Quillio indexes your firm's precedent library and finds the right starting document for the matter in front of you — by matter type, jurisdiction, counterparty position, and usage history.
Quillio searches your firm's precedent library and surfaces the document that actually fits your matter. I index the precedents, file notes, and past matters in your DMS (iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, FileSite) and match them against the facts of the current file — matter type, jurisdiction, counterparty position, and which partner previously used the document. Better than a file-name search; safer than starting from scratch.
What changes
Finding the right precedent for a NSW-jurisdiction subcontract for a tenant-side fit-out can take 30-45 minutes — asking around, checking the precedent folder, pulling three similar matters, and comparing them.
Quillio returns the three most relevant precedents in 10 seconds, ranked by fit, with a note on why each is a good starting point and which partner has used it before.

I index your precedent library
Quillio connects to your DMS (iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, FileSite) and indexes precedents, file notes, and past matters — with your permission model preserved.
You describe the matter
Tell me the matter type, jurisdiction, parties, and the position you are acting for. I can also read a client email or opening file note to extract the context.
I rank the precedents
I return the top matches ranked by fit — matter type, jurisdiction, counterparty position — with usage notes (which partner last used it, whether it was successful).
You open the right starting point
Open the precedent in your DMS. Use it as your first draft. I can also generate an adapted first version of the precedent with names and facts updated for this matter.
What you can do with Quillio firm precedent search
- Search your firm's precedent library by matter facts, not just file name
- Rank precedents by usage history and partner preference
- Find the right counterparty-side version of a precedent (landlord vs tenant, vendor vs purchaser)
- Surface relevant past matters with similar fact patterns
- Adapt a precedent to the current matter's parties and facts as a first draft
- Identify precedent gaps — matter types where your firm has no internal precedent
A real example
You are briefed on a tenant-side fit-out of a Sydney CBD office. You need a precedent subcontract for the fit-out works that has been used successfully on similar matters, ideally by a partner in your team.
Describe the matter to Quillio: tenant-side fit-out, Sydney CBD, NSW-jurisdiction subcontract, construction works.
In 10 seconds: three ranked precedents. Top match is a NSW tenant-side fit-out subcontract last used by Partner X in matter 2024-8831, amended successfully twice. Second is a Vic precedent needing NSW adaptation. Third is an older standard form noted as superseded. Each match links to the original precedent and the matters it was used in.

Firm Precedent Search FAQs
How does Quillio connect to our DMS?
Quillio integrates with iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, FileSite, and most of the practice management systems AU firms use. Your permission model is preserved — if a user cannot see a precedent in the DMS, they cannot see it via Quillio.
Will Quillio expose precedents to users who should not see them?
No. Quillio respects your existing DMS permissions. If a matter or folder is restricted to certain users or practice groups, those restrictions apply to Quillio's search results. Nothing is exposed that should not be.
How is this different from a DMS search?
A DMS search matches file names and sometimes document text. Quillio matches by matter facts — jurisdiction, counterparty position, fact pattern — and ranks by usage history. It finds the precedent that actually fits, not just the one with matching keywords.
Can Quillio identify gaps in our precedent library?
Yes. I flag matter types where your firm has no internal precedent or where the existing precedent is out of date. Useful for knowledge management partners building out the library.
Can Quillio adapt a precedent to the current matter automatically?
Yes. Ask me to produce an adapted first draft with the parties and facts of this matter, and I will update names, dates, recitals, and jurisdiction-specific provisions. The adapted draft is a starting point, not a finished document.
Is this safe for a larger firm with strict information barriers?
Yes. Quillio respects information barriers set at the DMS or practice management system level. If a user is walled off from a matter, Quillio does not surface its precedents to them.
Where does the precedent data sit?
Precedent data stays in your DMS. Quillio creates a searchable index with the metadata and content, hosted on Australian infrastructure under SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. Your precedents are not used to train any model.
