Junior counsel (0-7 years post-admission at the Bar): $3,000-$8,000 per day. Senior junior counsel (8-20 years): $8,000-$18,000 per day. Senior Counsel / Queen's Counsel (silks, post-taking silk): $15,000-$30,000+ per day. Top commercial silks exceed $40,000 per day. Silks take "silk" under the protocol of the NSW Bar Association.

How barristers are briefed
Barristers are briefed by solicitors under the Legal Profession Uniform Conduct (Barristers) Rules 2015. Direct briefing by clients is allowed but unusual. Fees are agreed in a costs agreement between the solicitor and the barrister, disclosed to the client under section 174 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014 (NSW).
