How Quillio handles privileged information
I process client legal privilege material inside Australian data residency, with strict access controls, no use of your material for training, and full audit logging. Privilege is preserved because the material never leaves the firm's control in any way that would waive it. This article explains how.
Data residency and no-training commitment
All matter material is processed in Australian-hosted infrastructure and never leaves Australia. Your material is never used to train Quillio models or any third-party model. The commitment is contractual, not just technical, and it is audited by an external firm annually.
Privilege preservation
Privilege is not waived by sending material to a service provider engaged for the purpose of giving legal advice. Quillio is engaged by the firm as a tool for producing legal advice, and the matter material is used only within the firm's instance. Access outside the firm is not possible — we cannot read your matter files, and neither can anyone else outside your firm.
Confidentiality rings
For matters where a confidentiality ring is required (for example, in commercial litigation with competitively sensitive material), you can configure a ring so only named users see the material. The audit log captures every access to the ring and can be produced to the court if required.
Step-by-step
- Mark material as privileged. On upload, mark documents as privileged so I apply the privilege label in all outputs.
- Configure the confidentiality ring. If required, configure a confidentiality ring for the matter.
- Work normally. I process privileged material the same way as any other material, inside the firm's Australian instance.
- Audit on request. At any time, export the audit log for the matter to confirm who accessed what.
Common issues
- Privilege can still be waived by disclosure outside the firm — I do not prevent that, only the technical path is closed
- Joint privilege matters (for example, litigation funders) need careful access control — I flag this
- Without privilege privilege waiver can be accidental in email — use Quillio's secure share rather than email where possible
