How to set up a matter in Quillio
To set up a matter in Quillio, click "New matter", choose a matter type, enter the parties and jurisdiction, and upload any existing documents. The matter becomes a persistent workspace — every conversation, document, and output lives inside it. If you have LEAP, Actionstep, or Clio connected, you can open the matter from there instead and Quillio creates the matching workspace automatically.
Matter type
Matter type drives the default workflows I offer. Choose from options like family law (property settlement), conveyancing (VIC Section 32, NSW contract review), commercial (M&A, facility review), or criminal (brief analysis). You can change matter type later if it starts as one kind of matter and becomes another.
Parties and jurisdiction
Enter the parties and the jurisdiction at the start. This lets me apply the right law automatically — a NSW residential conveyance runs against the Conveyancing Act 1919 (NSW), a Victorian matter runs against the Sale of Land Act 1962 (VIC).
Existing documents
Upload any documents you already have — contracts, pleadings, correspondence. They become part of the matter context and I can reference them in any subsequent conversation.
Step-by-step
- Click "New matter". From the Quillio home screen or the matter list.
- Choose the matter type. Select from the list. This sets the default workflows and law.
- Enter parties and jurisdiction. Names, addresses, and the State or Territory.
- Upload documents. Drop in any existing documents. They become part of the matter.
Common issues
- Matter type can be changed later — I do not lock you into the initial choice
- Parties must be entered accurately for conflict checks — I flag possible conflicts
- If your practice management system is connected, create the matter there instead — Quillio syncs automatically
