How Quillio handles conflicts of interest

Quick answer

Quillio integrates with your conflicts system (LEAP, Actionstep, Clio, and standalone conflicts databases) and runs an automatic check when a matter is created. Matches are flagged for human resolution. Matter-level ethical walls block listed users from seeing the matter even if they are administrators. I do not replace the firm's professional conflicts process — I support it.

Automatic check

On matter creation, Quillio pushes the party names to the firm's conflicts system. Matches come back in under a minute. A match does not automatically create a conflict — it requires a human to determine whether the conflict is real, whether an information barrier is feasible, and whether the matter can proceed.

Ethical walls

Once a conflict decision is made, you can configure an ethical wall at matter level. Listed users see no trace of the matter — not in search, not in firm lists, not in their own audit access. Administrators who are not on the wall can still audit at firm level.

Professional rule alignment

The Legal Profession Uniform Law Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules 2015 (in force in NSW and VIC) and State equivalents set the standard for conflicts. Quillio's conflicts support is designed around these rules — it is a practical aid, not the legal determination.

Common issues
  • Conflicts checks must be documented as resolved — I prompt for the resolution note
  • Ethical walls must be set up before the wrong person accesses the matter — I flag any prior access
  • Conflicts across jurisdictions are resolved under the applicable Solicitors' Conduct Rules — I apply the correct rule set for the State
