How Quillio supports auditability of outputs
Every Quillio output has a linked audit trail covering the source documents used, the prompt applied, the model version, the timestamp, and the user. This supports lawyer supervision of AI work, compliance reporting, and post-hoc review of any output that later needs justification.
What the audit trail contains
For each output, the trail records the user who initiated it, the matter context, the prompt text (including any firm-wide defaults applied), the model and version used, the source documents referenced, the generation timestamp, and any subsequent edits by users. This is the forensic record.
Who can see it
Matter participants see the trail for their matter. Firm admins see the firm-wide trail via Firm Reports. Individual users cannot see other matters they are not party to. Audit trail access itself is logged — who looked at what and when.
Retention and export
Audit trails are retained for the life of the matter plus 7 years after matter closure (matching law society retention periods). They can be exported as part of matter archive or as a standalone audit report for regulatory review.
Common issues
- Lawyer-edited outputs retain the AI pre-edit version in the trail — do not lose edit history
- Audit trails are the foundation for any internal AI-use review — build process around them
- Regulatory enquiries about AI use can be answered from the trail — know how to extract
