To change firm admin in Quillio — the outgoing admin opens Firm Settings, Members, and promotes the new admin. The new admin confirms via email. If the outgoing admin has already left, contact Quillio support with verification documents and the change takes 1-2 business days.
Who can be firm admin
The firm admin is typically a partner or operations manager. They control billing, user management, integrations, and firm-wide settings. Individual matter owners can still have complete control of their matters without being firm admin.
Why transfer matters
Transfer promptly when the admin leaves the firm — otherwise you can be locked out of billing and user management. Quillio support can help if this happens but the recovery process is slower than transferring in advance.
Multiple admins
Firms with 10+ users should have at least two admins. I recommend partner-level admin plus operations admin. You can have up to 5 admins per firm at no additional cost.
Step-by-step
- Open Firm Settings. The current admin opens Firm Settings from the profile menu. Click Members to see the user list.
- Promote the new admin. Find the target user and click Promote to Admin. The user must already be active in the firm.
- Confirm via email. Both the current admin and the new admin receive a confirmation email. Each must click the link to confirm the change.
- Demote or remove the outgoing admin. If the outgoing admin is leaving, demote them to normal user or remove them from the firm entirely.
Common issues
- If the current admin has lost email access, contact support with verification
- New admins do not automatically see all matters — matter permissions are separate
- Billing continues on the existing account — no interruption during admin change
