How to track AI queries per matter in Quillio

Quick answer

To track AI queries per matter, open the matter and click "Usage" in the matter menu. You see every query, who ran it, and how long it took. Firm-wide, the "Usage" report under Firm settings aggregates by matter, user, and matter type. Usage data can be exported to CSV or pushed to LEAP, Actionstep, or Clio as time entries.

Per-matter visibility

Every matter has a Usage tab that shows every query — who ran it, what it was (summarise document, draft clause, run research), how long I took, and the estimated work unit value. Lawyers use this to track time spent on the matter that would otherwise not be billable.

Firm-wide aggregation

Under Firm settings → Usage, administrators see usage aggregated by matter, user, and matter type. This supports capacity planning, cost recovery analysis, and identifying matter types where AI is or is not being used.

Billing integration

Usage can be pushed to LEAP, Actionstep, or Clio as draft time entries. The lawyer reviews the draft entry and either adjusts it or approves it for the bill. This is a firm setting — off by default.

Step-by-step
  1. Open the matter. Click the matter you want to review.
  2. Click "Usage". In the matter menu.
  3. Review. See every query with timing and user.
  4. Export or push to PMS. CSV export, or push to LEAP / Actionstep / Clio.
Common issues
  • Time entry push is off by default — enable it at firm level after partners agree
  • Usage data includes queries the lawyer later discarded — I still record them, honestly
  • Usage reporting does not replace time-recording software — it supplements it
